Neurodiversity-affirming therapy in Virginia

You are coping, but you want to thrive. Therapy can help you work with your brain.

Neurodiversity-affirming therapy isn’t just about managing symptoms. It's about harnessing your unique strengths and achieving your full potential.

Maybe you've already been diagnosed with ADHD or Autism, or perhaps you're just noticing some differences in the way your brain operates. Whether you’ve known about your neurodivergence for years or are just starting to connect the dots, you’re in the right place.

Whatever challenges you are facing, neurodiversity-affirming therapy offers a fresh approach to mental health that encourages self-acceptance and personal growth. Instead of trying to fit a square peg into a round hole, neuro-affirming therapy embraces the squareness. It recognizes that what works for one person may not work for another, and that's perfectly okay.

Reach out today to learn how therapy can help you understand and appreciate your brain, harness your unique strengths, and unlock your full potential.

Hello! My name is Jennifer Beytin (she/her/hers), and I’m a licensed clinical therapist (LCSW) practicing in Virginia.

I help neurodivergent adults understand and appreciate their brains, develop effective strategies for navigating personal and professional challenges, and live more authentically. I especially enjoy working with professionals who feel stuck on the job or held back by how their brain functions.

Maybe you’ve tried therapy before, but the same problems keep rising to the surface. If you have been frustrated by past therapy experiences, you are not alone. Traditional therapy approaches don’t always work for neurodivergent people. That’s why I do things a bit differently.

My style is strengths-based, empowering, and neurodiversity-affirming. I’m not here to change you, but to help you become a more authentic, resilient version of yourself. We will work together to tap into your strengths, remove the roadblocks that are getting in your way, and work toward your goals.

Areas of specialization

  • If you have ADHD, your brain is wired a bit differently. It can be challenging navigating a world built by and for neurotypical people.

    • You know what needs to be done, but can't seem to make it happen. You wake up with the best intentions to conquer the day, but even simple tasks like getting out of bed can feel like climbing a mountain.

    • You feel overwhelmed at work and home. Busy all the time, you wonder why your to-do list never seems to get any shorter. Even worse, you can't stop criticizing yourself about it.

    • You might struggle with time blindness. That's when you start a task thinking it'll take five minutes, but ADHD has other plans. Time seems to slip through your fingers like sand.

    • Navigating the waters of human connection can be tricky when you have ADHD. You might find yourself struggling to focus during conversations or getting distracted when spending time with loved ones. It's not that you don't care; it's just that sometimes your brain seems to have a mind of its own.

    • Rejection sensitivity is like having an alarm system in your brain that goes off at the slightest hint of criticism or disapproval. Even a minor setback or perceived slight can feel like a major blow to your self-esteem, leaving you reeling and questioning your worth.

    • ADHD can interfere with your ability to regulate emotions effectively. You may experience emotions that are intense and hard to manage, leading to mood swings, irritability, and relationship difficulties.

    • When people hear the word "hyperactivity," they often think of kids bouncing off the walls. But for adults with ADHD, hyperactivity can look very different. Maybe you're constantly fidgeting, struggling with restless thoughts, or just feeling like you need to be doing something all the time.

    • You might struggle with impulsivity. Have you ever bought something you didn't need, said something you regretted, or acted without thinking? You're not alone. Impulsivity can wreak havoc on your relationships, financial security, career, and health.

    • With ADHD, it's easy to feel overwhelmed. And when the demands of everyday life start piling up, it can feel like you're drowning in a sea of stress and anxiety.

Finding the right therapist can be like searching for a needle in a haystack. You want someone who truly gets what it’s like to have ADHD. Neurodiversity-affirming therapy isn't about fixing what's "wrong" with you or trying to fit your neurodivergent brain into a neurotypical mold. It's about harnessing your strengths and finding ways to work with your brain – not against it.
